36 Hours in Dubai - New York Times (NYT)

You name it, Dubai has it. Or if it doesn’t have it, it’s building it. Or if it’s not building it, it’s dredging up an island to put it on. The busiest of the seven United Arab Emirates is growing so fast that its newest developments can only be measured in hummingbird flaps.

48 Hours in Dubai - Independent UK

While not the capital of the United Arab Emirates – that’s Abu Dhabi – Dubai is the totem of this progressive nation. Located on the shores of the Gulf in the north-east, Dubai was little more than a fishing village 50 years ago. Today, clusters of sparkling skyscrapers rise from the barren desert as the city’s rapidly changing skyline confirms its position as the most forward-thinking city in the Middle East.

Pre-Conference Event: ICSB Deans Executive Leadership Forum

Just like private enterprise, deans of schools around the globe are undergoing a fundamental transformation in response to changing student “buyer” values, the Internet, globalization, shifting demographics, and unprecedented economic pressures.

As a result, business schools are hungry for alternatives to the traditional dean candidates, who historically possessed deep backgrounds in core areas such as finance or economics and undertook a more straightforward mandate.

The ICSB Leadership Deans Forum is a two-day event (starts with an opening reception on Friday evening June 5, 2015; followed by full-day sessions on Saturday, June 6, 2014), coupled with networking opportunities. For access to ICSB 2015 events June 7-9, participants must register and pay separately through this website.

Dr. Paul D. Reynolds, Aston Business School (UK)

In 1988, after two decades in three sociology departments, Reynolds shifted focus to firm creation and growth and was subsequently on the faculty of five business schools. With David Story he coordinated a six country comparison of regional factors affecting firm births in 1991-93. He was, along with Richard Curtin, a coordinating principal investigator for the US Panel Studies of Entrepreneurial Dynamics [PSED] from 1994 to 2010. Refining this research paradigm, which involves tracking the business creation process in a representative sample of pre-profit start-ups, involved consultation with eight other national projects to facilitate cross national comparisons. This experience led to the role as the founding coordinating principal investigator of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor [GEM] initiative from 1998 to 2004; the GEM project has now collected harmonized data on the prevalence of business creation in a hundred countries. He is currently involved in a variety of analysis with the GEM data set and coordinating PSED projects in five EU countries [Finland, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK].
